Grey Forest Area Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1949. Our first fire truck was housed in the garage at the Scenic Loop Playground Club (SLPC). Eventually, we built a two bay station at the corner of Scenic Loop Drive (now Sherwood Trail) and Scenic Loop Road.
When the city incorporated in 1962 and needed a city hall, the fire department offered to share the building. In 1999, Grey Forest VFD was able to move into a home of its own, across the street.
We have been a city department and we have been independent of the city. At one time we had over a 70 square mile response area. GFVFD has gone from three members to 20+.
Many of the youth who started as Jr. Member volunteers have gone on to paid positions with local fire departments, police departments, other emergency services, and local colleges.
We have always strived to serve our community in whatever capacity needed. As our world changes, we must change with it. We look forward to working with you on the upcoming changes.
